PROJECT BRIEF:
Develop a suite of clear, logical technical documents providing step-by-step instructions for installers of CFCL’s BlueGen appliance.

DESCRIPTION:
CFCL is a world leader in developing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology to provide reliable, energy efficient, high quality, and low- emission electricity. The BlueGenTM appliance operates on natural gas to deliver up to 85 percent energy efficiency.

As CFCL moves from the research and development phase to commercial production of the BlueGen technology, the company looked to bring its technical documentation up to a commercial standard.

CFCL engaged Red Pony to undertake a review of the existing documentation, develop a series of document templates for the various document types (e.g. user manuals, work instructions, checklists) and then produce a number of user manuals for BlueGen appliance installers and owners.

Red Pony’s technical writer considered the variety of external and internal requirements for the documents, including the audience, function, structure and the range of document types in developing a recommended project approach.

The use of Word templates meant that the content and format could be standardised across documents, while enabling CFCL to update the documents internally as the technology is refined. The documents could be easy converted into other formats, including interactive PDFs.

A further advantage was that the format and style set created within the template enabled the user manuals to be easily translated into a range of other languages, including French, German, Dutch and Italian.

CFCL is now manufacturing the BlueGen appliance on a commercial scale in a custom- built factory in Germany and distributing this Australian designed and owned technology around the globe.
