KAMSC program review and report
CLIENT:
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council
PROJECT BRIEF:
Review two indigenous youth suicide prevention initiatives being run throughout the Kimberley region and report on the findings.
DESCRIPTION:
The ‘help’ card and ‘Look after your bubbly’ poster initiatives were developed in response to the findings of the 1997 ‘Bringing them Home’ report and the disproportionately high number of indigenous youth suicides in the Kimberley region of WA.
Both programs were developed by the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council (KAMSC), who then employed Red Pony to undertake a separate evaluation of each initiative.
The review involved extensive travel throughout the Kimberley region, including Broome, Derby, Halls Creek, Wyndham, Kununurra and Beagle Bay, to consult with local Aboriginal youth and representatives from health, education and justice services.
The final report provided a thorough analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the program and made recommendations for increasing its effectiveness.
