Defence Housing Australia (DHA)
Edit, proofread and index the agency’s 2016 Annual Report
DHA provides housing and related services to Defence members and their families.
As a statutory authority, DHA is required to provide an annual report in accordance with Australian Government and legislative requirements, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the Commonwealth Government Business Enterprise Governance and Oversight Guidelines. The final report is tabled in Federal Parliament.
DHA commissioned Red Pony, a member of the Federal Government’s creative and digital communication suppliers panel, to copyedit the draft report.
This initial phase involved a comprehensive review of the document content to suggest improvements to language and correct spelling, grammatical and logical errors, record project-specific terminology and language conventions in a dedicated style sheet, and provide comments where further explanation or information was required.
The second phase of the project saw Red Pony providing proofreading services to identify errors introduced in the final layout, including additional content provided after the initial copyedit.
DHA also engaged Red Pony to provide an index for the document in order to ensure the document was widely accessible and complied with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Requirements for Annual Reports (2014).
The challenging project timelines, due in part to the legislative requirements dictating the date for the final report to be tabled, required Red Pony to be extremely flexible in order to coordinate the copyediting, proofreading and indexing with the content writers and designers.
The final report was released in October 2016 and was awarded a Silver Medal at the Australasian Reporting Awards.
