Parliament of Victoria

Project Brief

Edit the Parliament of Victoria’s final report from the Inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other non-government organisations.

The Family and Community Development Committee conducted this landmark Inquiry into child abuse and reported its findings to the Victorian Parliament.

The Committee conducted hearings over a number of months, recording the testimony of victims, organisations and experts. The task of collating and presenting this material was the work of many authors.

Red Pony was engaged to edit the report, with a brief to bring a unified voice to the work of these authors, in addition to carrying out necessary editing and rewriting to improve clarity. We were also asked to apply plain English principles to ensure the final report was accessible to the widest possible audience.

Red Pony navigated a complex process of document management and multiple deadlines as draft sections of the report were conveyed from authors to Red Pony, then to the Committee for review.

Our work included applying consistent formatting across all documents so they could be easily transferred into a desktop publishing application.

This process was repeated a number of times over many weeks as the report was refined into its final form. The final report of the Committee, entitled Betrayal of Trust, was delivered in two volumes totalling nearly 700 pages. It was tabled in the Victorian Parliament on 13 November 2013.
