PROJECT BRIEF

Develop and facilitate a workshop on tendering for government projects at IPEd’s 2019 National Editors Conference in Melbourne.

IPEd is the peak body and professional association for editors in Australian and New Zealand. Its flagship professional development event is the biennial editors conference.

Red Pony has participated in a number of IPEd conferences over the years, having had representatives present papers or chair sessions in Adelaide, Brisbane and now Melbourne.

Having presented on project management and on technology in editing at these conferences in previous years, Red Pony founder and principal consultant Peter Riches was invited to conduct a masterclass workshop for editors on tendering for government work.

The workshop was based on Red Pony’s Tenders that mean business workshop but tailored specifically for conference attendees.

Over the course of half a day, Peter guided participants through the various steps for sourcing and qualifying a request for tender for a government project, and for developing a comprehensive, compelling and compliant response.

Through a combination of presentation, discussion and practical exercises, participants learned how they could present their services to prospective clients, draw on their experience effectively and address the requirements unique to public sector projects.

The specific topics included qualification of an opportunity, competitive assessment, response planning, insurance requirements, probity, contracts, panel presentations and contractual negotiation.

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and Peter has since been invited to adapt a version of the workshop as an ongoing professional development option for one of IPEd’s state branches.

Participants learnt how to source and qualify a request for tender for a government project, then develop a comprehensive, compelling and compliant response.
