PROJECT BRIEF
Copyedit and proofread an extensive suite of lesson plans and other resources for the teaching of phonics and phonemic awareness to primary school students.
The Victorian Department of Education (DE) delivers education and development services directly through government schools and indirectly by regulating and funding early childhood services, non-government schools and training programs.
The Phonics Plus project was of considerable scale: over 500 Microsoft Word files had to be copyedited and proofread to a tight deadline.
Red Pony expanded the project team to bring in additional consultants with specialist phonics knowledge to ensure we met the brief.
We also worked closely with DE’s dedicated project team to ensure that each lesson plan was an accurate and functional learning resource.
Once this stage of the project had been successfully completed, Red Pony was then engaged to assist in the creation of a PowerPoint file for each lesson plan.
Again, we worked closely with DE on the custom-designed slide decks to consistently apply formatting and linguistic conventions to each file.
The PowerPoint files are designed to assist teachers in delivering the phonics and phonemic awareness lessons. Again, we were required to work to a tight deadline, with delivery of the first half of the files required within 6 months, ready for the start of the new school year.
Red Pony populated slides with content from the lesson plans and other resources developed in the first stage of the project. We then conducted proofreading and quality assurance reviews for precision and consistency.
Red Pony successfully delivered the first stage of the project in January and the second stage in April, ready for the start of first and second terms respectively.
