PROJECT BRIEF

Copyedit the Monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement framework, a key component of Melbourne Water’s Healthy waterways strategy 2018.

To implement the Healthy waterways strategy 2018, Melbourne Water established a 10-year monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement (MERI) framework to guide data collection and monitoring of waterway health.

The framework was intended to be adaptive. As well as considering scientific and technical information, it needed to be responsive to community and stakeholder concerns.

For the strategy to be effective, the MERI framework needed to be scientifically sound and address stakeholder interests in the waterways encompassed by the strategy.

While the framework report outlined moderately complex and technical content written by a number of different authors, it was intended to be a public working document accessible to a wide range of audiences and interests, including policymakers, government, industry and the general public.

Red Pony was commissioned to copyedit the framework and associated documents (including 12 fact sheets), which totalled around 24,500 words. We reviewed the documents for errors in spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation. In addition to addressing issues of style, consistency and the suitability of the language for a wide readership, we minimised repetition, improved clarity, validated reference entries and applied the preferred citation style.

The outcome was a document that clearly outlined the MERI framework. It is accessible to all stakeholders who wish to participate in implementing the strategy and ensure the ongoing health of Victoria’s waterways.

Red Pony provided clarity for readers and made the document much more user-friendly.
