PROJECT BRIEF
Create accessible versions of DeakinCo. Diploma of Leadership and Management course materials for vision-impaired students.
DeakinCo. provides workplace solutions that assess and build the workplace skills and capabilities of organisations and individuals. A commercial arm of Deakin University, DeakinCo. offers innovative workplace education and accreditation to address business needs.
The Head of Client Services engaged Red Pony to help convert a range of learning materials for the Diploma of Leadership and Management course into accessible content for vision-impaired students.
First, Red Pony established a new Microsoft Word template with a comprehensive style set based on existing DeakinCo. brand guidelines. This template was used to format the course content.
Red Pony copyeditors then reviewed the course documents to correct errors and suggest improvements to language and structure.
Once these changes were approved, we created an accessible version of each resource in accordance with accessibility principles and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
This process included reformatting images and tables, inserting alt text descriptions and applying table header and column tags so the content was accessible by screen readers and other assistive technologies.
Throughout this process, Red Pony liaised with a Vision Australia usability expert to ensure that all modifications were comprehensive and up to date.
Microsoft accessibility checks identified any further modifications that were required.
When all checks were complete, the course materials were finalised for delivery to DeakinCo.’s new student cohort.
“Everything about Red Pony’s service – from the quality of the deliverables to their level of professionalism – was first-rate. I also really appreciated their rapid response time for completion of the work.”
