PROJECT BRIEF
Remodel the content and layout of the new SUT application form to provide a clear and intuitive application process for prospective students.
SUT has a strong reputation in Australia and overseas as a provider of career-orientated education. SUT’s responsibilities span the range of programs from apprenticeships to PhDs.
SUT brought in Red Pony to assist in the project to combine 15 separate forms into a single ‘multi-form’ version.
Red Pony was asked to examine the overall layout of the form as well as its accompanying instructions to ensure all information required to complete the application process would be accurately collected. The multi-faceted function of the form required that it be designed to cater for a diverse user base.
The first stage of the project involved the creation of a ‘master’ template to establish the basic format, layout and text styles.
This template was then applied to the multiform content and associated TAFE certificate version.
Red Pony’s experience working on a variety of instructional design projects proved invaluable well when it came to producing the text that would guide users through all the steps required to complete the form correctly.
The overall layout of the form had to provide users with a clear and logical path to complete all mandatory fields. In addition, the design had to take into account the requirements of SUT’s back-end systems and associated data entry processes.
The relationship between Red Pony and the SUT project team was crucial to the success of the project. It meant Red Pony was able to produce a document that met the requirements of a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders while delivering to a tight project timeline.
